Puffin Post takes internet security very seriously indeed and has taken all possible steps to keep your credit card details secure. We utilise a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) that encrypts the data stream between your browser and our server. In addition to this, our secure server is endorsed by THAWTE, an internet agency specialising in site authentication. You can click on the logo at the bottom of the page to confirm the certificate's authenticity. We believe that by taking these measures, we offer our customers the peace of mind and confidence needed to shop online with Puffin Post.
Data Protection
Puffin Post are committed to protecting your privacy. We will only store, use and disclose the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Which? Web Trader Code of Practice). We collect information about you for two reasons: firstly, to process your order and contact you in case of queries and secondly, to provide you with the best possible service. We will not email you in the future unless you have given us your consent. If you change your mind after having signed up to receive emails/mailings then please select the relevant option within Your Mailings once you have logged in to your account.
The only information we will collect about you is: your name, address, telephone number and email address.
We don't hold your credit/debit card information on our web-server and any personal information we do hold will be held securely in accordance with our internal security policy, the law and the Which? Web Trader Code. Also, provided that you inform us of any changes, the information we hold will be accurate and up to date. You can check the information that we hold about you by emailing us. If you inform us of any inaccuracies we will delete or correct them promptly. We will never collect sensitive information about you without your explicit consent. If we transfer your information outside the EEA (European Economic Area) we will always obtain your consent first. We are registered under the Data Protection Act and all data is held and used in accordance with the act

Use of cookies
We use “cookies’ – small text files that are stored on your browser – to smooth and enhance your shopping experience and to track and analyse the patterns of behaviour of visitors to our site. We also use cookies to store your personal information so that you do not need to re-register each time you place an order. The information collected in this way can be used to identify you unless you modify your browser settings
How we are striving to comply with EU law on cookies
The EU brought in a new law in May 2011 to monitor the ways in which websites use cookies more effectively. Because some unscrupulous websites use cookies in ways which are aggressive or even illegal, all companies will now be required to be much more upfront in the way that they use cookies. Although the Book People has always been open with our customers on issues of privacy and data holding, we are now planning to be even more transparent as we attempt to comply as closely as possible with this new legislation while still providing a good service to our customers
What we use cookies for
We have conducted an audit of our use of cookies and are confident that their use on our site is both carefully controlled and of benefit to our customers. We use cookies in the following ways:
Managing your use of cookies
You can usually modify your browser to eliminate the use of cookies – the easiest way to do this is to use the Help option in your browser. However, please be aware that opting out of cookies may affect your use of our website and you may lose some of the functionality you currently enjoy. We are working on new ways to use technology to make it easier for you to manage your use of cookies, but we would like to stress that the cookies we use enable us to market to you intelligently and sensitively, making our use of cookies something that is beneficial to your shopping experience.
If you have any comments or queries about our use of cookies, please contact us and we will do our best to answer quickly and informatively.

If a child under the age of 13 contacts Puffin Post, for example to vote, enter into a contest, subscribe or submit work to be displayed on the site, Puffin Post will collect that child's email address and the email address of the child's parent or guardian. Puffin Post will use the child's email address only for the purpose for which it was collected, and we will use the email address of the parent or guardian only to provide notification about the child's contact with us. We will also provide information on how the parent or guardian can review and request deletion of the child's personal information, and how to prevent further collection and use of personal information concerning the child. If you wish to contact us regarding the reviewing and deletion of your child's details, or have any questions/comments about privacy, contact us and we will be happy to help you. You will be asked to specify the username and password of the child concerned and you will need to provide your own email address, for verification and contact purposes only..
No personal information collected from children under 13 will be sold, rented or otherwise disclosed to any company outside the Puffin Post group, except for disclosure to companies acting as our agents to help us to provide services requested by the child.
Children under 13 are permitted to vote and take part in contests. However, if a child under 13 wins a competition, notification of this will be sent to the parent or guardian's email address, which must be provided by the child when they enter the contest. We will not under any circumstance ask the child for any personal information beyond email addresses without obtaining the written consent of a parent or guardian.
